Παύλος Κάβουρας

Ο Παύλος Κάβουρας είναι Ομότιμος Καθηγητής του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (ΕΚΠΑ). Τον Φεβρουάριο του 2023 ορίστηκε κάτοχος της Νέας Έδρας UNESCO στο ΕΚΠΑ με αντικείμενο «Ανθρωπολογία της Παραδοσιακής Μουσικής: Αναπαριστώντας και Επαναπροσδιορίζοντας την Άυλη Πολιτισμική Κληρονομιά».

Το επιστημονικό του έργο συνδυάζει την ανθρωπολογία με την κοινωνιολογία, τη μουσικολογία, την ιστορία, τη φιλοσοφία και τις πολιτισμικές σπουδές. Υπήρξε ιδρυτής και διευθυντής του Εργαστηρίου Εθνομουσικολογίας και Πολιτιστικής Ανθρωπολογίας του ΕΚΠΑ (2007-2022). Έχει συμμετάσχει ως κύριος ή συνεργάτης ερευνητής σε πολλά διεθνή προγράμματα μέσα από διαλέξεις, διδασκαλία και εθνογραφική έρευνα, καθώς και πολυάριθμες άλλες θεσμικές συνεργασίες με αντικείμενο τη διαχείριση της τέχνης και της εκπαίδευσης. Από το 2016 είναι επισκέπτης καθηγητής στο UCLA (Τμήμα Εθνομουσικολογίας) και το 2015, ως Greek Scholars Fellow του Ιδρύματος Ωνάση, έδωσε σειρά διαλέξεων στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες της Αμερικής, στα πανεπιστήμια της Καλιφόρνια (UCLA). Στάνφορντ, Ιλινόις, Μίσιγκαν και Χάρβαρντ. Από το 2012, τα ακαδημαϊκά, καλλιτεχνικά και φιλοσοφικά του ενδιαφέροντα επικεντρώνονται στη μετανάστευση και την ετερότητα σε μια ευρεία γεωπολιτισμική προοπτική, χρησιμοποιώντας τη μουσική και τον κινηματογράφο ως χώρους κατανόησης της ετερότητας και ως οχήματα για την επίτευξη της αυτογνωσίας. Από το 2020, είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του Κέντρου Αριστείας του ΕΚΠΑ με αντικείμενο τον διαθρησκειακό διάλογο. Έχει κάνει εκτενή εθνογραφική έρευνα στην Ελλάδα, τις ΗΠΑ, τη Νοτιοδυτική Ινδία και την Αίγυπτο. Έχει δημοσιεύσει πολλά βιβλία και άρθρα στα αγγλικά και στα ελληνικά και είναι επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος της σειράς «Εθνομουσικολογικά – Ανθρωπολογικά» των εκδόσεων Νήσος.

Παύλος Κάβουρας

Pavlos Kavouras is professor of the Faculty of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). In February 2023, the holder of the New UNESCO Chair at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was appointed, with the subject ‘Anthropology of Traditional Music: Representing and Redefining Intangible Cultural Heritage‘. His scientific work blends anthropology and sociology, musicology, history, philosophy and cultural studies. He was Founder and Director (2007-2022) of the Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology Laboratory of the NKUA. He has participated as principal or collaborating partner in many international projects related to lecturing, teaching and ethnographic research, as well as numerous other institutional synergies in art and education management. Since 2016, he has been visiting professor at UCLA, Department of Ethnomusicology, and in 2015, he, as Onassis Foundation Greek Scholars Fellow, gave a series of invited lectures in the United States of America, at the universities of California (UCLA), Stanford, Illinois, Michigan and Harvard. Since 2012, his academic, artistic and philosophical interests are focused on migration and otherness in a broad geo-cultural perspective employing music and film as venues for understanding otherness and as vehicles for attaining Self-awareness. Since 2020, he is a founding member of the NKUA Center for Excellence dealing with “Inter-religious Dialogue.” He has done extensive ethnographic research in Greece, the USA, Southwest India and Egypt. He has published numerous books and articles in English and in Greek, and is the General Editor of the Ethnomusicology and Anthropology scholarly series for Nissos Publications.
