1. The thesis shall be submitted with the agreement of the Supervisor no later than June 1st, for those intending to defend it in the spring semester of the second year, or September 1st, for those intending to defend it in the September exam term of the second year.
  2. The MA Coordinating Committee, at the request of the candidate, sets up the three-member Examination Committee for the approval of the thesis, which consists of the Supervisor and two more lecturers of the MA.
  3. Postgraduate students are required to submit the text of the thesis typed in 1.5 point font, on A4 size pages, with a font size of 12 points. The cover page must indicate the University, the Department, the name of the postgraduate student, the supervisor, the title of the thesis and the academic year.
  4. The thesis is orally examined, provided that the student has successfully completed all compulsory courses and research/practical obligations. The oral examination takes place during the examination periods.
  5. Assessment is on a ten-point scale, 5 (five) being the minimum passing grade.
  6. The grade is submitted on a special form to the MA Secretariat under the responsibility of the thesis supervisor.
  7. The examination committee may request: (1) minor corrections, to which the candidate responds within 20 days. If requested, the Committee may submit the final grade to the MA Secretariat without a re-examination, (2) major corrections, and (3) rejection. In case (2), a re-examination of the revised text takes place in the immediately following examination period, in which case if the student does not respond successfully, he/she is deleted after a reasoned recommendation of the three-member examination committee and a decision of the MA Coordinating Committee. In case (3) the student will be deleted after a reasoned recommendation of the three-member examination committee and a decision of the MA Coordinating Committee.
  8. When submitting the thesis, the student must indicate the written and oral sources used. Plagiarism is considered a serious academic offence. Plagiarism is understood as:
    • Copying someone else’s work (published or not).
    • Using the work of others (published or not) without proper acknowledgement.
    • Repeating an excerpt from an essay which has been previously submitted by the candidate in the same or another course and which has already been assessed, without this being explicitly identified and acknowledged.
    • Citing any documentation material without reference to the source.
  9. Following its approval by the examination committee, the thesis must be posted on the website of the Department of Music Studies.
  10. In addition, the thesis is submitted electronically to the Digital Repository “PERGAMOS”, according to the decisions of the Senate of the University of Athens.
