The postgraduate programme will consider all applicants holding the equivalent of a Greek undergraduate degree. The Call for Applications is published on the University’s and the Department’s websites every second academic year, usually in June. The call announces the postgraduate entry requirements and lays out the dates and subject matter of the entrance examinations. Applications together with all the required documents are submitted to the MA Secretariat within a deadline set in the announcement.

Required documents:

1.Application
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Photocopy of identity card or passport
4. Certified copy of your undergraduate degree certificate
5. Certified copy of your second (undergraduate or postgraduate) degree (if applicable)
6. (For graduates of foreign institutions) Certificate of recognition of your degree by the Greek authority (DOATAP)
7. Publications in peer-reviewed journals, if any
8. Evidence of professional, research or artistic activity, if any
9. Two letters of recommendation by university professors (for applicants who are not graduates of the Department of Music Studies)
10. Certificate of English language proficiency at level C1, or certificates of education or study in English
11. (For non-Greeks) Certificate of competence in the Greek language

The selection of applicants is based on the following criteria:

  • Grade of the undergraduate degree (or certificate), which must be at least 7,5 (a certificate of equivalence from DOATAP is required for foreign university degrees). The MA Coordinating Committee, with a specially reasoned decision, may, at its discretion, accept applications from applicants who have not obtained a grade of 7,5 in their degree, if they have a second undergraduate degree, a postgraduate degree or remarkable writing, research and artistic work or significant professional experience in areas related to the subjects of the MA Coordinating Committee. These requirements must be met at the time the application is submitted.
  • Grade of the written entrance exam. The terms, subject matter and recommended bibliography of the entrance exam are set out in the Call for Applications.
  • Oral interview, for the successful applicants of the MA entrance exam before the MA Coordinating Committee, where their general ability to cope with the requirements of the MA is assessed. In particular, the applicants’ performance in the oral interview is evaluated on the basis of (a) their analytical thinking and their ability to approach, in a scientifically substantiated and methodologically consistent manner, issues related to the subject matter of the MA, as well as the development of relevant arguments, (b) their knowledge of the relevant problems and literature and (c) the proximity of their scientific and artistic interests to the subject matter of the MA.

The final ranking of successful candidates is based 20% on the degree, 60% on their performance in the entrance exam and 20% on their performance in the oral interview. Successful candidates are those who achieve at least 50% of the total marks (degree, entrance exam and oral interview). If a candidate’s application is not accompanied by the required documents, it will not be accepted and the candidate will not be invited to participate in the above evaluation procedure.

Based on the overall criteria, the MA Coordinating Committee prepares the Student Evaluation Table and submits it to the Departmental Assembly for approval.

Successful candidates must register with the MA Secretariat within fifteen (15) days of the decision of the Departmental Assembly.
