As a social and cultural phenomenon, music is a research subject of ethnomusicology and music anthropology. The course has a dual character: (i) theoretical, through the historical overview of the ethnographic method in ethnomusicology and anthropology (ethnographic realism, crisis of representation, postmodern ethnography); (ii) practical, through the exercise of mini-field work in a field of students’ free choice and their familiarization with the ethnographic method (participant observation, ethnographic diary, interviews, recordings, etc.). The synthesis of the two dimensions of the course (theoretical/practical) will be the subject of a written assignment.
