Over the past decades, audiovisual media have become an essential tool in fieldwork and data analysis, as many ethnomusicologists/anthropologists collect or produce new audiovisual material. The course examines the interconnection of audiovisual media with the diverse theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of the ethnomusicological and anthropological disciplines, as well as their applications in research, documentation and dissemination of scientific experience and knowledge. How do ethnomusicologists/anthropologists employ audiovisual media in their research? How does the use of these media affect researchers’ perceptions, their method of data collection and their relationship to the research object? What is the ethics and the methodologies of using these audiovisual media? What can the study of audiovisual representations in the domain of performing arts reveal? The course is supported by lectures, workshops, practical applications and screenings, while students need to work on a relevant research project.
