The academic year is structured in two (2) semesters, the winter and spring semesters, each of which includes at least thirteen (13) weeks of teaching and three (3) weeks of examinations. The winter and spring semester courses are re-examined during the September examination term. In exceptional circumstances, the course may be rescheduled and the new date and time are posted on the MA website.

Class attendance is mandatory. The maximum number of absences per course is set at 30% of the total number of lectures. In case the maximum number of absences is exceeded, the student is deleted after a reasoned recommendation of the MA Coordinating Committee is submitted to the Assembly of the Department.

The evaluation of postgraduate students and their performance in the MA courses takes place at the end of the first and second semester with written examinations and/or assignments. The method of assessment is determined by the teacher of each course. The fulfilment of the students’ obligations for the third semester is graded by the thesis supervisor. Scoring is on a scale of 1-10. Course grades are submitted to the MA Secretariat within 20 days of the end of the examination period. The final grade of the Master’s degree is based on the course grades by 70% and the thesis grade by 30%.

In order to obtain a Master’s degree, each postgraduate student must successfully attend and pass all the courses of the MA and prepare a postgraduate thesis, thereby accumulating a hundred and twenty (120) credits (ECTS).

In the fourth semester of the programme, the student prepares and submits a postgraduate thesis. The title of the thesis is proposed at the end of the second semester with an application to the MA Coordinating Committee, that is co-signed by the supervising professor. All MA lecturers can supervise a thesis.

The thesis has approximately 25,000 words, including footnotes and excluding the bibliography and any appendices. The thesis must be specialised, original and of a research nature. The language of the thesis is Greek or English.

In order for the thesis to be approved, the student must support it before the examination committee.
